An Austrian waterway operator, via donau considers it one of its main tasks to acquire, generate and enhance expertise on Danube navigation as well as to spread such know-how to both partners and the general public. Through the publication of manuals, via donau manages to significantly contribute to the dissemination of knowledge on Danube navigation.

via donau, however, not only uses traditional educational channels but also provides INeS, a state-of-the-art e-learning tool for pupils, students, forwarders and trainees designed to introduce them to the topic of inland navigation.

Since 2007, the MS Negrelli has been on tour along the Austrian Danube as a floating exhibition vessel under the name of “donau on tour”. Its objective is to reach the general public along the Danube and supply them with information on the River Danube as an economic region and a habitat.

In 2011, another information and instruction centre is planned to take up operation at the port of Ennshafen. On an area of 500 square metres, the centre will provide information on the Danube as a transport axis to the interested public.
