One of the aims of via donau is to enhance the competitiveness of Danube navigation by implementing targeted measures and thus increase the acceptance and use of this environmentally friendly and efficient mode of transport.

Providing interested shippers and forwarders with advice and support on the potential of inland waterway transport is only one aspect of the transport development tasks performed by via donau. In addition, via donau is also the first contact for enquiries about support schemes and the availability of EU funding for the implementation of sustainable projects for Danube navigation. Simultaneously, via donau also makes intensive efforts to develop new services in inland navigation.

In the future, inland waterway transport is to be integrated more strongly into intermodal logistics chains. For this purpose, we need to analyse potentials and gather knowledge on different sectors of industry and types of goods.

One of our activities in this area, for example, is the creation of basic knowledge for the establishment of container liner services on the Danube. Besides, the services we provide for businesses also include assisting ports in the realisation of their extension plans, the construction of new facilities or the expansion of their services.
