Along with details and figures on the company, the young visitors learned a lot of valuable information about jobs at via donau and the various courses of education and professional orientation of the female via donau employees. During a visit of the DoRIS Test Centre, the girls had the unique opportunity to experience the real-time tracking & tracing of vessels navigating on the Danube via the Danube River Information Services.
How does a navigational chart get generated from the data collected by a sounding vessel? This question was among those being answered by the via donau team. The highlight of the girls’ visit was the sightseeing tour of Lock Nußdorf, where the young guests could actually witness the sluicing of a ship.
The dissemination of knowledge on Danube navigation to a younger public is a key priority on via donau’s agenda. The company offers internships for students at universities of applied sciences each year as well as tutors master's theses and doctoral theses. In addition, it offers traineeships to students from Central and Eastern Europe who can thus gather several months of on-hand experience in the company.
Through its participation in the Girls´ Day program, via donau wishes to show girls and young women the manifold job opportunities in these fields that are not necessarily a “typical woman’s choice”, as well as to support them in choosing such educational paths.
