A first program phase analysis (2003-2007) indicated a decreasing number of submissions of applications and therefore less grant inquiries. With the upcoming changes in the Marco Polo II Program, such complications should be avoided and a fast and efficient project management handling shall be achieved.
For the 2009 Marco Polo Call for proposals, the Commission has proposed that the funding for modal shift from road be doubled from 1 EURO to 2 EURO per 500 tkm. Furthermore, a total 10% of the total budget (which would amount to 6 Million Euro) will be reserved for inland navigation. Further changes for the benefit of inland navigation are underway: the reduction of the 250 Million tkm funding limit, as well as funding for the transport of empty containers to be expected for 2010.
Proposals for the revised Marco Polo II Program can be submitted within the next call, which is expected to be opened in spring 2009. via donau, which was represented at the information event in Venice offers its assistance in questions related to inland waterway project proposals.
