The new propulsion, one that is certified by the CCNR2 regulations of the Rhine Central Commission will reduce the fuel consumption of the vessel by 12.5%. The efficiency however will rise from 47.8% to 55%. The “Aqua Team” pusher can move up to 6.000 tons of cargo in a pushed convoy with four barges. On its regular journey the vessel can save 95,625 litres of fuel per year on the Austrian Danube which adds up to a reduction of 258 tons of CO2 emissions. Danu Transport is an Austrian company and as such contracted the modifications of the pusher in the Austrian shipyard of the ÖSWAG in Linz.
20% of the total costs for the new motorization which initially cost the shipping company more than 600.000 €, could be covered by the funding obtained from “klima:aktiv mobil” promotion program. This national funding program aims at avoiding and minimizing greenhouse gases, nitrogen oxide and particulate emissions in traffic and transportation.
