via donau via donau

ISL (Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics), lead partner in the RISING Project is organising, together with the Bundesverband der DeutschenBinnenschiffahrt e.V. (BDB) an Industry Forum on 21 September in the offices of the BDB in Duisburg. This will be the second dissemination event on regional level for the RISING project, a so-called Industry Forum for the German Waterway network.

The first Industry Forum took place on 17 November in the voestalpine complex in Linz. The next Industry Forums for the Danube Region are scheduled for fall 2010 in, Hungary and Romania. In early 2011, Croatia and Serbia as well as Slovakia will follow with regional Industry Forums. Other Industry Forums will be held for the other geographical areas of focus of the RISING project, such as the German waterway network – the first to be held in Duisburg next month - and the Rhine-Scheldt. An Industry forum for the Rhine-Scheldt is scheduled to take place in fall 2010 in Belgium. Altogether 12 Industry Forums have been foreseen during the project, 6 for the Danube region, 3 for the Rhine-Scheldt and 3 for the German waterways.

A fully new concept in European projects, an industry forum is a regional event during which RISING partners reach out to commercial enterprises in their region who are stakeholders in the field of inland navigation. This is an opportunity to discuss together with the main actors of the field of transport and logistics their needs and expectations. They are asked to provide their requirements and feedbacks regarding RIS and new RIS services for transport and logistics purposes and support the dissemination of the project results and outcomes in the co-modal transport and logistics sector.

During the first Industry Forum for the Danube Region which took place last November on the premises of the voest alpine plant in Linz the participants, among which representatives of the authorities, consultants, logistics service providers, other partners of the inland navigation sector, representatives of the industry or of the press came at the invitation of via donau and Industrie Logistik Linz (ILL) to present their requirements and expectations for RIS in the sector of transport and logistics as well as to discuss and provide feedback on the benefits of RIS for transport logistics purposes.

The RISING project aims at identifying, integrating and further developing information services such as River Information Services (RIS) in order to efficiently support Inland Waterway Transport (IWT) and logistics operations for commercial applications.
