Title
MENTORE - Implementation of GNSS tracking & tracing technologies for EU regulated domains
Project objectives

Demonstrate and validate Tracking and Tracing (T&T) technologies and services using EGNOS/Galileo with the goal of developing pre-operational systems, providing “end-to-end low-cost services” for regulated applications.

Project survey

The goal of this project is to demonstrate and validate Tracking and Tracking (T&T) technologies and services using EGNOS/Galileo, and to achieve the following:

  • Support the application of National and European regulations already in place, including possible relations with International regulatory frameworks;
  • Accelerate the process of set-up of regulations presently under development/discussion (mostly pursuant to EU policies);
  • Trigger the development of new regulations (based on Member States trends and strategies).

In this context, EGNOS/Galileo technologies can support the implementation of such regulations requiring T&T services in many sectors.

In the above context, the main objectives of MENTORE are to:

  • Facilitate the implementation of the regulations by pursuing the use of EGNOS/Galileo technologies;
  • Promote the EGNOS/Galileo added-values and their penetration in the regulated market sectors;
  • Implement pre-operational solutions providing T&T “low-cost” services, compliant with present regulations and capable to trigger new ones (thus supporting EC and Member States in the establishment of new legislations for public and social interests);
  • Demonstr
  • Validate social and public benefits of EGNOS/Galileo, and relevant market value (along with business opportunities for industries and researchers in the field of regulated applications/services)
  • Identify an action plan allowing the introduction of EGNOS/Galileo based T&T services:-  Propose suitable technical specifications for the deployment of low-cost services- Identify main steps for pulling/attracting/obtaining regulation adoption- Prepare a dissemination and awareness plan targeting end-users in order to stimulate their acceptance.

The expected outcome is pre-operational systems, providing “end-to-end low-cost services” for regulated applications, thus allowing to initiate the certification and standardisation process and hence, the deployment of compliant services in a commercial and/or regulated framework.

ate the developed services, and thus pursue the starting of certification and standardisation process;

Role of
via-donau

via donau is a member of the core team of MENTORE due to its know-how in terms of  inland waterway transportation processes as well as its experience in the field of River Information Services (RIS). via donau is involved in the regulation framework assessment, user domain identification, application group definition and will further contribute to the critical analysis of user requirements and state-of-the-art of technology. The (optional) inland waterway pilot demonstration will be managed by via donau if it is selected after the critical analysis.
