Preparation of a bilateral scheme for river engineering and water ecology

The principal project goals are: To develop a strategy based on a plan of action adjusted to the required uses of the river and to enable the management of revitalization measures on a bilateral basis – taking the relevant EU directives into account and with the participation of the public. The plan of action is to serve as a joint planning document for the revitalization and water engineering measures. The project consists of the following modules:

• Evaluation of the Lower Morava (river km 0 – 69) according to the Water Framework Directive and a deficit analysis with respect to the goals defined by the Water Framework Directive, FFH Directive and Bird Protection Directive
• Analysis of scenarios
• Definition of a scheme for river engineering and water ecology
• Preparation of a catalogue of measures
• Preparation of a plan of action
• Public relations work (scheme and measures)

A bilateral expert forum will steer the process, namely, the “Bilateral Working Group Morava River”, which consists of experts from ministries, river and protected area administrations, specialized institutions and consulting firms. Within this scope, the project content will be discussed, jointly prepared and information shared on the completed and ongoing work.

Furthermore, within the scope of the bilateral discussion process, the know-how of the Ecology Team served as an input for the preparation of the project modules and coordination services.
