The use of the real properties along the Danube, March and Thaya are subject – especially in flooding areas – to especially cautious administration and ongoing monitoring to protect nature and the safety of the people living in their vicinity.
via donau administrates its own real property as well as plots of land belonging to the Republic of Austria and Donauhochwasserschutzkonkurrenz. In total, it deals with some 2,500 pieces of real property with a total area of approximately 14,350 ha – of which the major portion is surfaces covered by water.
The tasks of via donau include the drafting, establishment and management of lease, rental agreements and contracts of use as well as the administration of the proceeds and the compliance with regulations for their use. A major task is the granting of permits for the use of plots of land under the administration of via donau (Download: Application for use of land) such as for sports events, film settings, concerts or festivals of all kinds on the Danube island, the Alte Donau and on the Danube canal. Some properties are used exclusively as recreational zone for neighbours and infrastructure.
As part of the job, the staff members of the property management group are involved in the talks and negotiations with authorities and with lessees on the Danube, March and Thaya, on the Danube canal and Danube island. It takes care of matters relating to taxes on property as well as examining official notices issued, and if necessary, taking recourse to the such rulings.
Many problems can only be solved on site. The local branches at Aschach, Krems and Bad Deutsch-Altenburg are via donau’s contact to the local population and prepare all matters and decisions belonging to their zone.
via donau is the point of contact for lessees, event organisers and other parties using the properties.
